Is a pie a pie?

So every since I was little this is how my family made a pie…a pie that would actually feed all twelve of us, Athertons. I saw this on instagram and realized we’re not the only ones that do this…it’s a big family thing. To be honest until I saw this picture  I’ve never once in my life given any thought to how strange our “pies” looked…our poor company.

Well I asked my boss if he would call that picture a pie. He said no, he’d call it a pudding, custard or a bar. A piece of pie has to be in the pie shape or it’s NOT a pie. Well naturally I disagreed with him. I believe a pie is a pie because of the way it’s made, not based on the shape. Soooooo fast forward 20 minute later in our now heated argument… I thought of pizza! So brilliant of me, I might add=) People call homemade pizza, pizza, and rarely is it ever make it in a circular pan. But as a rule it’s made on a baking sheet and it’s still called pizza, when of course we’re eating our square pieces=) I won the debate!

It’s official pie is pie, solely on the way it’s made! and yeah I made these=)IMG_5248_thumb1

And who doesn’t like some eye candy?…check out my adorable brother=) IMG_5287_thumb1

Happy Monday! I hope your week is wonderful!

~Photo-a-day~ Oct 15–Oct 21

Someone please tell me how to stay motivated about life when you’re just so dang tired, both mentally and physically. Seriously I feel asleep, the other night, while reading a book. Sitting on the floor, with just my head on my bed while waiting for my younger brother to get out of the shower. I woke up at three, in the morning, this way. Talk about a seriously stiff neck. After my usual 4:30 work-out and morning shower=) I was quite my normal self.

Another bracket popped off my tooth the other day. It’s thankfully in the back of my mouth, so I don’t notice it unless I eat. which of course I do three times a day and it succeeds in making it as difficult as possible. The hassle of trying to fit a dentist appointment into my already FULL schedule…resulted in this conclusion. “I’m positively tired of braces!” -sigh- it felt sooooo good to get that out… Again I ask myself: What convinced me to get them again?!?!?!? So 7:15 on Friday it is=)

Jogging horses after work is a lot of fun…but cleaning the stalls is a different story…eight of them total at the moment, but more horses are expected as the yearling sales continue. My poor hands! All blistered up from the shovels, scratched from harnessing up these crazy animals and dry from the wind. I NEED gloves! but when can I find the time to go get them. I guess I’ll have to start buying my living necessities online.

On Saturday I worked on cleaning up our families old computer and installing all the programs etc. onto the new. The desk looks so different with just a laptop. Unlike the old computer box with a billion plugins, this laptop only has one=) I sorted through all the stuff in the drawers…filled several trash bags…throwing stuff away is always enjoyable=) While doing this I got to…you guessed it…COOK! I made two pumpkin pies (the dessert Victoria wanted for her birthday), peanut butter smoothie (which we used like ice cream on the pie, sounds weird/gross but you’d understand if you were raised with it=), spaghetti pie and all the sides that go with that. So fun! So I went back and fourth from working to baking…I could totally get used to this ratio=)

When I’m at work…

Since I’m at work more than anywhere else nowadays, I’m pretty much at home in my office. I actually like being in my quiet office, after a rowdy weekend with my family. Also the schedule is a huge part of it…I love a routine and my job makes life very stable.

I’m your typical secretary. Except if I was to describe my job, I would say I’m more like an office manager/bookkeeper but also the person who has to preform. Because I’m the only girl in the office, for this company. Yeah I sit all day, well I got a standing desk now (about a month ago) and so I stand for part of the day. It surprisingly really helps, I highly recommend it. I love my job! But if you would have told me when I started, I would still be here after two years I would have laughed. No way this outdoor’s girl was ever going to make it inside, in a car, for that long, let alone make a career out of it. But that all has change…I have been here for over two year and I plan on working this job for many more years. Lord willing=) I look forward to work everyday and I couldn’t have found a better place for myself to be, work related…I fit here and I can truly say it’s not work, it’s just what I do everyday=) Because I love it!

IMG_9580-001IMG_9587-001IMG_9510-001Joseph works at a window shop that I do the books for, it’s so fun seeing and working with my brother everyday. But it can be very challenging at times for me, trying to learn how to keep it all “business” with a sibling. It’s been a learning experience for me, since he’s started, but it’s been a good one.IMG_9520-001IMG_9533-001And my favorite visitor of all, Christina. My best friend, she can bring a little sunshine into the worst of days=) We matched so we had to take a picture…I work for Amish in the middle of no where so I don’t typically dress up much…but again this was taken on a Friday. And since I normally don’t see a soul on this day of the week, I dress for comfort=) I’m trying, but failing, to make up a good enough excuse for what I’m wearing=)IMG_9570-001

I hope you enjoyed this peek into the place where I spend most my time.

Do you enjoy your job or is it just work?

~Photo-a-day~ Aug 27–Sept 2

This is a day late, only because Labor Day was Monday and I got all my days mixed together. But my long weekend was wonderful. Other than for work…weekends like this wreaks havoc on my work schedule and it left me with loads of dead lines and no time to get the work accomplished. But that’s life and it would get boring if every week you didn’t have a lot a bit of stress. Right?!?!?

Saturday was the annual fall Amish school auction for this community. Sooo I had several groups of Amish to take to the sale that morning and spent a few hours chatting with neighbors and friends before returning home to clean and cook for the expected company the following day. It rained and the humidly destroyed my hair, so I was more than happy to spend the rest of the day at home=) At one point I was flipping pancakes, putting cookies in and out of the oven, and mixing the bread together, all at the same time. Christina had to work, boy did I missed her! She’s normally tasting what I’m making, washing dishes, flipping pancakes or whatever else I need done=)

Sunday I spent it cooking (so it was perfect…haha) and enjoying the company of friends that evening. The lovely Ison sisters -Hannah, Gracie, Faith and Charity - were able to come…some of life’s dearest friends…I love these girls and was over joyed that they (along with their family) could come and spend the afternoon with me us. We played croquet…I absolutely love this game. I stayed up late with both of my younger brothers watching a James Dean movie in my room…it was actually pretty good, they both stayed awake the entire movie. When I asked Samuel afterwards if he liked it, he said he didn’t know….haha, I can’t decide if I did either. There was so much to grasp, for that old of a movie…I was pretty impressed with how deep it was.

Labor day I was up before daylight again to head down to Canaan Indiana. A morning of horse back riding with my boss and Isaac. I didn’t take any pictures even though I had my camera, it was rainy (my only excuse)…but still it felt good to just ride and really hang out with Sam and not be troubled with my camera. He handled the day better than the other two horses, even though he is years older then them. An absolute perfect day, with a lovely sunset to conclude it.

So on to the pictures…

~Photo-a-day~ Aug 13–Aug 19

Hello all!

As y’all can tell I changed my blog name…from girl in camo photography to girly ‘n camo. The reason for this being I feel like this name describes my blog more accurately and is a lot easier for me to say..lol. I’m one for change and I hope you like the new name as well=)

All weekend  was spent cooking. I began with pancakes Saturday morning.  Then dinner Saturday night, I grilled herb chicken and made the normal sides to go with it. On top of that I made dessert - peach upside down cake and brownies=) Both were yummy! On Sunday I roasted a 20 lb. turkey and made breakfast sausage to freeze. A perfect way to spend a weekend for someone whose obsessed with cooking like me. The only down side to cooking for me, is that it absolutely wreaks havoc on my weekly Friday manicure. On Monday I looked down at my nails and cringed…they’ll just have to wait till Friday, as much as it pains me to look at them.

Isaac and I rode 15 miles on our bikes, Sunday afternoon. He’s a very deep kid, surprisingly, and after about mile 8 he starts talking. Wow and as always I’m impressed with his very mature 16 year old mind. Like a choice he made recently, purely because he knew if he didn’t, it would hurt his mom. Really! in a day and age where it’s not uncommon to do what YOU want and not worry about what others think…or how it will make them feel…we have a boy here with big life dreams and he cares enough about what’s truly important to redirect these ideas, so he will actually get to live these dreams and have his parents admiration along the way. Not just when he archives his goals. I can only say I hope if I ever have a child it’s half the kid that my brother is.

Last night I was out on Brookville lake…swimming and riding on the boat. Isaac and I swam in 100 ft of water…first time for both of us. It was very cool=)

~Photo-a-day~ July 30–Aug 5

So last Wednesday did you wonder where this post was?…=) My computer started acting up and I took it in for a quick weekend virus removal. And that turned into a week…a full 7 days without my computer! Crazy!

Not only was my personal stuff, blogging, etc. put on hold. But so was work…so I bought another back up computer the following Monday. A very stressful couple of days for me…in which I worked several twelve hour days. But I’m alive still and much better because of this situation. I learned a lot…like that I can handle a major problem like this and make the necessary decisions by myself. my boss was out of town and I had to make all the decision concerning this alone.

Besides this I spent a lot of time at the Indiana State Fair with my family and friends…Christina posted on facebook …”3rd time at the fair…next year I think I want to live there for all 3 weeks!=) I can’t get enough of it=)”  She’s going to kill me…haha!  I like it but not as much as she does…just the people the excitement…not to mention the smells=) Fair food is one of my weaknesses…but most of the time I’m good with just smelling it.

Okay on to the seven new photos of this week…no…last week=) sorry!
