What’s Sam doing these days

“One touch is all it takes….to make a girl fall in love with a horse”

My baby is taking it easy, pleased to spend these winter months living a good ol’ lazy life. He’s enjoying all the long winter nights tucked away in his stall. By the way it’s his absolute favorite place in the whole world to be. Surrounded by food day and night, he couldn’t ask for a better way to wait for spring=) I only ride him over my lunch breaks and on the weekends if it’s sunny and not windy. (he doesn’t like wind or frozen ground and I like to actually feel my fingers and toes when I ride). He deserves the break -  I mean he’s 22! even if I constantly need to remind myself of this permanent fact.

But in the middle of my day, when I’m stressed…sometimes to the point of tears I go to the barn and steady my emotions by leaning on my understanding horse, Sam.

This quote sums up how I feel…

“So now again I look to my horse to heal me, to reassemble the broken parts. To steady my thoughts, which drift and spiral like wondering planets, just outside their proper orbit. That sweet horsey smell, the familiar cadence of a canter, the sound of hooves in the aisleway – these are the things that keep me the sane.”   ~Paige Cade, Tobego Sport HorsesIMG_5154Below is Buster…he always leaves his tongue out after he drinks water, no matter the temp outside. (It was in the single digits out, when I took these pictures of him). I just HAD to share these=)IMG_5169IMG_5184

I enjoy standing in the open doorway, before I close it for the night, pausing for a moment to listen to the horses munching their grain. The smell of grain, hay, dust and horses all blended together, creating a perfect moment for this horse lover=)

“No matter how BAD your day is…. There is Always someone waiting for you at the barn”

Thanks for reading=)

thirty days on horse back

Starting September 15, I decided to try and ride a horse, a day, for fifteen days. And my ride had to last, at the minimum, 20 minutes. I did it! Sometimes I had to ride over my lunch break…or right after work before I left for home. If I had something planned at home or elsewhere that evening. I only had to ride in the rain once, it’s been years since I’ve rode in the rain. And guess what? It’s still not fun=) Sam, my horse, was like are you serious?!?!?! Also only one early morning ride, due to a Saturday spent away from home. Now riding when when the sun is just peeping up over the horizon is always fun=)

Trying to fit a time to ride into my schedule everyday, was tough to begin with. After a the first two weeks it became normal. I got to spend a lot more time with Sam. By the end he was so tired of having his picture taken that he refused to prick his ears…haha. Oh well! It was so fun, in my own world, accomplishing something solely for myself.

And I took a picture (with my cell phone, that’s always easier to use when on I’m on a horses back) everyday and posted it on instagram, enjoy!!!!!

The new little filly=)

My bosses mare had another baby this spring. This time a filly=) I’m still trying to think of a name for her.  She’s adorable! Since she’s had very little contact with humans after her birth, when he brought her home week ago, she had no fear of humans - so her and I became buddies really fast.
IMG_3607-001IMG_3612-001I can’t take my camera out to barn ever, without snapping a few of this guy=)IMG_3557-001IMG_3560-001IMG_3566-001Or this guy either…love those eyes<3IMG_3597-001

Horses at the house

So we’ve lived at this new house for about a year and a half. And I moved the horses straight from the old house to their current location and haven’t ever taken the time to hook up the trailer and bring them over to ride for an afternoon.

So last Sunday we decided we were going to do it. For the first time.

It was so fun! …we rode four miles, once the rain let up=)

IMG_3669-001IMG_3672-001IMG_3674-001IMG_3676-001IMG_3687-001IMG_3689-001Yeah he’s ridiculous…but that’s why we love him. IMG_3691-001IMG_3704-001IMG_3716-001IMG_3717-001IMG_3720-001Christina took this of me and Sam…I love it! A picture I will always keep <3IMG_3726-001IMG_3748-001IMG_3751-001
